On July 11th, 2026, Glenburn Township used a Lackawanna County Arts Grant and collaborated with several local organizations to host a community event celebrating America’s 250th birthday. We were joined by The Countryside Conservancy, The Lackawanna County Historical Society, The Lackawanna Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, State Representative James Haddock and our fellow Glenburnians who own No. 27 Cafe were our Snacks Sponsor for our lecture & group hike titled “Walk Through Glenburn History.”
We merged this celebration with another arts grant endeavor: a “Welcome to Glenburn” sign contest, and we let our community vote on their favorite design. We had several gorgeous submissions which resulted in a tie and required a runoff vote, but, in the end, fellow lifelong Glenburnian, historian and artist Laurie White Gumula’s beautiful design was chosen.
She built her image around an antique photograph of Glenburn Pond which belonged to Alison Hall Johnson who is from one of the founding families of Glenburn and who lived near our Township Building.
We will be hosting a follow up dedication event once we have the physical signs to install, and hope to see you all again!
